The German Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research (AWI) and the French Polar Institute Paul-Émile Victor (IPEV) jointly operate Arctic research activities at the

French-German AWIPEV Research Base 

in Ny-Ålesund, Svalbard.

The research focus is on climate change and its effects on the Arctic environment, including studies on atmospheric, glaciological and terrestrial issues as well as the marine ecosystem and their interactions.

    On 14 June 2023, we celebrated the 20-year anniversary of the joint French-German research base AWIPEV in an event hosted by the French Embassy in Berlin.
